Here we go y'all. For real this time.
Opening Notes -- Carlito and Nitro went at it in a dark match, and Carlito won. Poor Nitro. What's happened to him since Melina won the Women's Championship?...Commentators from all 3 brands + the Spanish announcers are at ringside.
Match 1 -- Jeff and Matt Hardy (c) vs Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch - World Tag Team Title Match --- Like Cade and Murdoch are really going to win. The Hardy's win it in 16:00. It's the same formula they used with London and Kendrick when they were champions and they'd have a match at a PPV. They'd work matches in the shows leading up to the PPV where they'd lose, and then win at the PPV. Same banana.
McEvoL in the McLocker Room -- Shane tells an almost hyperventilating Umaga that it will all go well if Umaga does as the McMahons tell him to. Vince is kickin' it with da bitchez with a new doo-rag. Shane thinks about becoming ECW champion, and then recovers by saying Vince can become ECW champion. Vince walks away and again we get seeds of distrust between Vince and Shane. They do this EVERYTIME, when is Shane gonna turn on Vince already? Sheesh!
Match 2 -- Melina (c) vs Mickie James - Women's Championship match --- If I had booked Wrestlemania 23, this would have been my Divas match. We have 2 formidable Divas duking it out and actually giving back worth to the Women's Championship. Melina pins Mickie at 9:00 to retain. Oh snap.
Maria's Interview Segment -- Yes, it's happened, I couldn't think of an alliteration, or anything cute or funny to put here. Maria interviews Edge, who says he's happy that A) He didn't have to wrestle Orton Monday, and B) Cena and HBK tore each other apart in a match that went almost an hour last Monday. Maria then pulls out a cue card from her cleavage and gets Edge to retell the story of how he cashed in his Money In The Bank, which Edge is only too happy to do. He does wonder who asked the question though. Turns out it was Mr Kennedy, who tells that story from his perspective, and implies that he just might cash in his Money In The Bank tonight. Edge is NOT HAPPY.
Match 3 -- Chris Benoit (c) vs MVP - United States Championship match --- I may not like MVP much, but there's no denying he's a good athlete, and he's a worthy opponent for Benoit. Benoit wins with a small package in 14:00.
Dishing With Grisham -- Should be the title of a segment they should give the Grishmeister, lolz. Anyway. I just finished watching this interview segment for the 1234389035th time because it just makes my fangirl all giddy and crazyhorny, so you know I'm doing this detailed. (The bold parts are Orton.) Grish is about to interview John Cena, but before Grisham can finish his question, Ortz interrupts. He says that he and John-John have a lot in common ("young...incredibly handsome...extremely talented...leaves us all the more open for resentment...I won't take that lying down..."), so they should form an alliance tonight ("...we get together...") to take out HBK and Edge then they go at it and see who the better man is. John-John wonders exactly what Orton really wants, considering he thinks John is handsome ("Wait a minute, man, that's not exactly what I meant..."), and that he wants him and John to "get together" ("...Like, in the ring, man!"), and though Ortz said he won't take it "lying down", his eyes say differently (o.o). John-John says it's 2007, he's not judging anybody, but thinks it works for Ortz, and then mocks the Legend Killer pose ( \_o_/ <-- Legend Killer Pose), implying Ortz is batting for the home team (O.O). Sorry Ortz, it's not his thing. Ortz is NOT HAPPY, and says, and I swear to you he said this verbatim, "You think you're funny, Cena, huh?! The only pose you're gonna be doing tonight is laying on your back, in that ring, with ME ON TOP!!111!1!!" My ovaries go BOOM at that line as Ron Simmons steps into the picture. Ortz mouths to himself what he just said, realizes he didn't just walk right into that one, he ran, tripped, flailed, stumbled and fell flat on his face into that one. Ron looks at him all funny and says "DAMN!" and Ortz flinches. HEE. HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Creative and John Cena are listening to the fangirls, lolz.
Match 4 -- Bobby Lashley (c) vs Vince, Shane and Umaga - ECW Title match --- You really think I'd talk about this when I'm so bored with it? All we really need to know is that it was ugly, it was brutal, it was carnage, and after the dust settled, Umaga hit a top rope splash on Lashley before reluctantly tagging out to Vince who covered for the 3-count and the pin, so Vince is the new ECW Champion, thanks largely to Umaga.
McCelebration -- Vince, Shane and Umaga are celebrating, and then Vince sends Umaga to the showers. The ECW Originals are standing off to the side, and Vince mocks each and every one of them, cuz you know, he's ECW Champion now. Joey Styles speaks for all long-time ECW fans when he tried to figure out how ECW went from its formation in 1993 to Vince becoming ECW champion.
Match 5 -- Undertaker (c) vs Batista - World Heavyweight Championship match, Last Man Standing --- Long match that I'm sure the fans appreciated very much, just from what I've read in the recap. Double count-out at 22:00. I think, technically, you can give one or two more re-matches to Taker and Batista and the fans would still like it, as long as they keep it interesting and technically sound like at Mania and tonight at Backlash.
